WIRELESS OR UNGUIDED MEDIA
Unguided media transmit data without using cables. This media are not limited by physical geography. This transmission called wireless communication. Wireless LANs installed in college campuses and office. This transmission uses Radio wave, Microwave, Infrared are some of wireless transmission media.
TWISTED PAIR CABLE
FIBER OPTIC CABLE
COAXIAL CABLE
WIRED OR GUIDED MEDIA
Guided media are the cables that are tangible and usually used in LAN. It is bounded by physical geography. In guided media, communication devices are linked with each other directly via physical media or cable for the transmission of data. For example the guided media are twisted pair cable, coaxial cable and fiber optic cable. Each of them has different transfer rates. Among them, fiber optic cable has the higher bandwidth.
Communication channel is connection between transmitter and receiver in which data can be transmitted. It is also called communication media or transmission media. The transmission of data is measured in bandwidth. The more the signals is being transmitted, the higher the bandwidth. There are two type of communication channel or media which is guided media and unguided media.
